Tawanda's Notepad

I’ve always thought myself to be one that’s prepared to stand up for myself and my people as and when called. upon. Particularly on issues of racism. And I have. I’ll give you an example of something that happened just last week.

Those who know me know I’ve been. uncharacteristically sick for some months now and they also know I’ve characteristically read up on my illness inside out. Why? ‘Cause that’s just the kind of person I am. So when I was at the doctors’ last week, I was having quite a medical conversation with the doctor and his colleague and needless to say, they were impressed.

The problem arose when one of the doctors said “I’m very impressed. Most people who come here can’t even sign their names”. Now we all know who the “most people” being referred to here are. So I say to him: “it’s not their…

Tawanda's Notepad

You’ve all heard it before…”foreigners are taking our jobs”….”oh and our women too”. Welcome to Xenophobia!

So anyway, where was I? Oh yes, I was wondering about the logic behind xenophobia the other day. What exactly is a viable argument for wanting people to stay on “their side” of these geometric lines drawn by some old white men hundreds of years ago? And does chasing “kwerekweres” out of the country actually achieve anything?

sportainmentblog

Is Selena Gomez addicted to ink? The ‘Hotel Transylvania’ starlet just got another tattoo!

Sel went to tattoo artist to the stars, Bang Bang (who’s also worked on loverboy Justin Bieber and Gomez’s ‘Spring Breakers’ co-star Vanessa Hudgens) for her latest body art addition. It reportedly took Bang Bang only 20 minutes to etch Roman numerals “LXXVI” (76) on the back of Sel’s neck.

Bang Bang revealed, “The tattoo was a tribute to a family member who she said means a lot to her. Selena was nervous it might have been painful, so she held her best friend’s hand the whole time. But she did a great job.”

Selena already has a tiny music note on her wrist, and shortly after she got it, she insisted she was done with tattoos for a while. It didn’t tickle! “It’s a music note,” Gomez said of her first tattoo. “I was really…

Barcelona v Real Madrid: Match Preview

sportainmentblog

Barcelona will look to stretch their lead over Madrid to 11 points as they host rivals at the Nou Camp in this season’s first league encounter.

Having started the season in typical Barcelona fashion. Tito Vilanova, the man who replaced Barcelona great Pep Guardiola, finds his team top of the La Liga table with a total of 18 points from 18. Along with 17 goals scored and only 5 conceded – life after Pep maybe isnt as bad as everyone expected.

Real Madrid however, are not finding things as easy as the Catalan’s this year. Although winning the Super Copa for the first time under the guidance of Mourinho – Madrid find themselves sixth – and a massive 8 points behind Barcelona.

Defeats to Sevilla and Getafe, as well as a draw against Valencia have seen Madrid tumble off the perch of the league – in which they…
